Suspect of shooting Rigor bassist Ultraje in the head is arrested

The São Paulo military police arrested on Saturday afternoon (14) Pablo William da Silva Mostarda, 28, suspected of having participated in the shooting of musician Rinaldo Oliveira Amaral, 56, known as Mingau, bassist of the band Ultraje a Rigor.

The crime occurred on September 2nd in Paraty (RJ). The musician was shot in the head and is admitted to the intensive care unit at São Luiz Hospital in Itaim, west of São Paulo.

According to the military police, Mostarda was arrested following anonymous information in the Chácara Ingrid neighborhood, in the rural area of Taubaté (140 km from São Paulo).

When police arrived at the scene, the suspect attempted to escape but was eventually arrested by agents from the 5th Interior Military Police Battalion.

Police did not say whether Mostarda has a defense.

During the interview, the Rio de Janeiro Civil Police was contacted to find out whether they would request the transfer of the arrested suspect, but did not respond until after the publication of this report.

According to the Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro, the operation was carried out jointly by the 167th DP of Paraty, the Rio Military Police and agents from Minas Gerais.

Rio police are still searching for 22yearold Hiago Lourenço da Silva. Like Mostarda, he was temporarily arrested by the 167th Police. The two are part of a wanted poster by the Rio de Janeiro police.

Three other suspects had already been arrested.

Understand the crime

Mingau and a friend were driving through the Praça do Ovos area in the Ilha das Cobras neighborhood when the vehicle they were in was hit by several shots one of which hit the bassist in the head.

According to Mingau’s friend, who was also in the vehicle, the two went to the square to have a snack.

One of the lines of investigation is that drug dealers in the region shot at the musician’s car, a Ford Ranger. The car was seized and subjected to forensic examination.

Another suspicion of the civil police is that the musician wanted to buy drugs. The friend who was with Mingau initially reported this to the military police. However, in his statement to the police, he changed his version and said they had gone to dinner.

According to the civil police delegate in charge of the case, Marcello Russo, drug trafficking is rampant in the Paraty region where Mingau was shot.

“The place is known as a hub for buying and selling illegal drugs and is dominated by the Comando Vermelho criminal group,” the police chief recently told Folha de S.Paulo.

Musician remains in hospital in intensive care

After Mingau was shot, he was rescued and taken to the Hugo Miranda Municipal Hospital, but there was no neurosurgeon and he was eventually transferred to São Paulo.

Immediately after his arrival at São Luiz Hospital, the bassist underwent an operation to lower his intracranial pressure.

According to the latest Rede D’Or medical bulletin, Mingau remains hospitalized in the intensive care unit (ICU) this Friday (13) and his clinical condition is stable.

During the day he has eye opening and spontaneous ventilation through a tracheostomy. “There are some moments of interaction with the family, in the blink of an eye,” the text says.

The intensive care team placed the musician in a chair where he remained throughout the day, the statement said.

Mingau has been the bassist of the band Ultraje a Rigor from São Paulo since 1999.
