Switzerland: 100 car train sets world record

The Rhaetian Railway (RhB) did it: The world’s longest passenger train successfully dominated the 25 kilometer UNESCO World Heritage Site Graubünden route this afternoon. The record train was almost two kilometers long and was driven by seven machinists.

The record route took a demanding mountain route to Alvaneu. The 100-car train climbed almost 800 meters on the 46-minute journey on the Albula/Bernina route, passed through two spiral tunnels and two more turns and crossed the famous Landwasser viaduct. Thousands of spectators followed the world record hills and valleys along the train route.

Renato Fasciati, director of RhB, followed the record through a live broadcast in Bergün. He credited his team and all helpers with the success of the experiment. About 400 people were mobilized. After the successful attempt, he received a Guinness World Records certificate in a marquee. A representative of the organization traveled from Turkey to verify all relevant details.
