Sylvester Stallone admits Arnold Schwarzenegger’s superiority ‘at its peak’

Sylvester Stallone, Golden Globe winner for Creed IIHe admitted that despite his best efforts, he couldn’t top Arnold Schwarzenegger in his prime.

The action stars had an intense rivalry and it took them a long time to become friends.

“The ’80s was a very interesting time because this ultimate ‘action guy’ wasn’t really formed. Up until then the plot was a chase scene like Bullitt or The French Operation and a movie that was all about intellect or innuendo or whatever.”

declared to be a documentary Arnoldavailable on Netflix.

But in 1982 we had the debut of Rambo: programmed to killand everything changed.

“You really trusted your body to tell the story. A dialogue was not necessary. I saw that I had a chance because nobody else did it… except another guy from Austria who didn’t say much (on stage).”

A few years later, Schwarzenegger exploded in Hollywood terminator.

“He was superior and just had all the answers: the body. The power. That was your character. I had to be constantly beaten up (in the movies) to create anything else, while Arnold was never hurt that badly. I remember saying, “Arnold, you could go out and fight a dragon and come back with a bandaid.”

However, Schwarzenegger realized then how important it was to have such a strong rival.

“If it wasn’t for Sly, I might not have been as motivated to make a film like this and work as hard as I did in the 80’s. I’m a competitive person.”
