The preliminary number of victims of an air strike on a military barracks in central Syria is around 100 dead and almost 200 injured., during a closing ceremony of the Syrian government army’s official training. This was reported by the National Observatory for Human Rights in Syria, according to which the attack in the courtyard of the Homs Military Academy, north of Damascus, was carried out with at least one drone, the origin of which is not yet known. The Observatory says the dead include nine civilians, including a little girl.
The Syrian government confirmed the attack, but did not provide detailed information on the death toll. The Damascus Defense Ministry quoted government agency SANA in a statement: refers to the presence of victims but does not indicate the number of dead and injured, and claims that the attack occurred shortly after the end of an officers’ course graduation ceremony.
Other sources speak of the presence of Syrian Defense Minister Ali Mahmoud Abbas in the vicinity of the Homs Military Academy at the time of the attack, but this fact is not confirmed by official sources.
