The United States launched strikes in Syria against two Iran-linked sites on Sunday, November 12, in response to attacks on American personnel in the region, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said. These were “precision strikes” against “facilities in eastern Syria used by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and Iran-affiliated groups,” he said in a statement. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (OSDH), eight Iran-linked fighters were killed in the US strikes.
“The attacks were carried out respectively against a training center and a protected residence near the towns of Albu Kamal and Mayadeen,” he said. This is the third time in less than three weeks that the US military has struck targets in Syria that it claims are linked to Iran, which supports various armed groups that Washington accuses of being behind an increase in attacks on his forces in the Middle East.
Increase in attacks by pro-Iranian groups
The United States struck a Tehran-linked weapons depot in Syria on Wednesday, and on Oct. 26 the U.S. military struck two other facilities allegedly used by Iran and affiliated organizations. The United States said these attacks caused no casualties.
