SZA is “afraid” of fame.
In an interview with ELLE magazine, the “Kill Bill” singer admitted that her anxiety issues meant she had to take time to “mentally” prepare for her interview.
“Some people think that for example the fact that I’m scared or shy or that I have self-esteem issues is a facade,” explained the 33-year-old star. I’m just, really, just human. Everyone has feelings and fears. Why shouldn’t I be afraid of being famous? Are you afraid of becoming famous? Because I’m famous, don’t I have the right to be afraid? I wasn’t born famous. I had quiet, normal parents who, like everyone else, came from a small town. And at some point I’m supposed to get used to all this?”
SZA, real name Solána Imani Rowe, has often dealt with her fear. After the 2021 Billboard Music Awards, the singer shared several photos from the event and explained that she had a hard time appearing in public. “I hate being outside more than I can explain. I have really crippling fears and I don’t post anything [ces photos] That’s because you would have found them all anyway. Thanks to my team and my mother. At least I’m alive,” she wrote.
SZA is currently in the middle of the European leg of their SOS Tour, which began in February and will end in Phoenix on October 29th.
