T-Mobile outage hits US users

February 13 (Portal) – Users of T-Mobile (TMUS.O) in the United States reported network outages late Monday, according to an outage tracking website, as the company said it was quickly fixing a glitch that had affected some cellular services.

The US wireless carrier said it is working to resolve an issue that has caused intermittent problems with voice, messaging and data services in several areas. It was not said how many users were affected.

The number of reports of T-Mobile outages over the previous 24 hours had peaked around 10:20 p.m. ET (0320 GMT) at more than 83,000, said Downdetector.com, which tracked outages by compiling status reports from sources including users, tracks bugs on its platform. The number had fallen to about 9,000 by midnight ET.

T-Mobile’s help page responded to Twitter messages from users who had problems and said it would look into the complaints. She did not provide any information on the extent or reason for the failure.

“Our teams are rapidly addressing an issue with third-party fiber optic disruptions that has been intermittently impacting some voice, messaging and data services in multiple areas,” said Neville Ray, T-Mobile’s president of technology, on Twitter.

Downdetector also flagged thousands of reports of downed services from other US wireless carriers Verizon Inc (VZ.N) and AT&T Inc (TN). The site showed more than 2,000 unresolved incident reports for Verizon and more than 1,200 for AT&T at peak times.

Verizon and AT&T did not immediately respond to Portal requests for comment.
