Taco Charlton Looks Like Signing With New Orleans Saints (Update)

While not yet confirmed, it appears the OLB Taco Charlton is heading south from the former Pittsburgh Steelers to the New Orleans Saints. Charlton tweeted a Who Dat on his account a few moments ago.

Charlton had a pre-call with the Saints prior to the 2017 NFL Draft, though he was eventually selected by the Dallas Cowboys at Pick #28.

Pittsburgh added Charlton midway through the 2021 season and signed him to their practice team on September 21. He worked his way up to the 53-man roster and recorded just over 200 defensive snaps as a rotational EDGE rusher. His production was light, recording 18 tackles and just a half sack.

The Steelers will return in 2021 with TJ Watt and Alex Highsmith as their top two pass rushers. Genard Avery was signed to presumably compete as number 3. He will fight Derrek Tuszka, who carved out a special team role and took snaps away from Charlton late last year, along with any draft pick and/or UDFA the Steelers bring later this month.

We’ll update this post assuming we get news soon that Charlton has officially signed a deal with New Orleans.

TO UPDATE: Nick Underhill, covering the Saints, confirms Charlton’s tweet.

And the Saints added a taco to their timeline.
