The principle of “One China” is “universally recognized and respected” and the reunification of Taiwan is an irreversible process: “The Chinese military will never allow Taiwan’s independence.” General Zhang Youxia, number two of the China Central Military Commission (CMC), the highest body of the armed forces headed by President Xi Jinping, said this at the opening of the work of the Xiangshan Forum in Beijing.
In the last two years, Beijing has increased political and military pressure on the island, which is considered an “inalienable” part of the People’s Republic and is to be reunified by force if necessary.
