China on Friday announced it would end cooperation with the United States on several issues following US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan this week.

Beijing will “suspend talks between China and the US on climate change” and cancel a military leadership talk and two security meetings, China’s foreign ministry says, citing the “contempt” Nancy Pelosi showed for China’s strong opposition to his visit to Taiwan have.

China and the United States, the two biggest emitters of greenhouse gases, struck a surprise climate deal at last year’s COP26 summit in Glasgow. They pledged to work together to accelerate climate action over the next decade and meet regularly to “tackle the climate crisis.”

Sanctions against Nancy Pelosi

Among other measures announced Friday, the State Department said it would end cooperation with Washington on returning illegal migrants, as well as on justice, cross-border crime and counternarcotics.

He previously hinted at imposing sanctions on Nancy Pelosi and her close family, without explaining exactly what they consisted of. China, which views Taiwan as an integral part of its territory, on Thursday launched the most important military drills in its history around the island, which will last until Sunday, in response to the American-elect’s visit.
