Taiwan: China, reasonable measures, there is no middle line

(ANSA) – BEIJING, AUG 09 – China denies the existence of a “central line” in the Taiwan Strait separating the island from the mainland, calling the measures taken so far “impeccable”. “Taiwan is part of Chinese territory and there is no middle line,” Deputy Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu told state broadcaster CCTV. The military maneuvers near the island were intended to “uphold China’s sacred sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Ma added. “Our actions are public and proportionate and consistent with domestic and international law.” However, the never-recognized centerline has traditionally been respected by Beijing.
