Taking a multivitamin daily could shave three years off your mental age when it comes to memory.

A study of more than 3,500 people over the age of 60 gave about half a multivitamin pill a day for a year while the rest took a dummy pill. The volunteers conducted thought tests before the start of the study and again a year later.

In tests of memorizing words, those taking multivitamins were able to memorize 0.7 more words than before and those taking dummy pills 0.44 more words.

The researchers, from Columbia University in the US, said those taking multivitamins had typical memories of someone three years younger, but admitted the effects were minor.
