‘Talks too much’: Schoolgirl asks mom for help as teacher tapes her mouth shut

An 11yearold boy sent his mother a photo on his cellphone asking for help after a teacher taped his mouth shut at a school in North Carolina, United States. The taped mouth, the teacher said, was a punishment for “talking too much in class.”

The mother was outraged when she saw the photo of her son: “I don’t know what to do,” said the boy. Outraged, the mother asked: “What is that? Who did that? I’m on my way”. He had previously contacted the school board.

The case resonated on the networks and mother Catherine Webster later said in an interview with an American TV channel that her son had to wear the tape on his mouth throughout the lesson and that two other boys in the room were also punished in the away. .

Catherine also said that the teacher never called her to talk about her son’s behavior in the classroom, which would be a more sensible way to resolve the situation than “humiliating” the boy in front of the entire classroom.

“I’m a reasonable person and a pretty strict parent who doesn’t tolerate disrespect and understands that teachers don’t have time for repeated interruptions, so I also discipline Brady at home when that happens,” she said.

The board issued a statement saying it would investigate the allegation, but due to the impact the photo had on the networks, the teacher quit early.

Police were called but said the facts presented were insufficient to warrant an assault charge and the case was dropped. Other parents also complained about the teacher’s behavior.
