She described the ordeal as “too close to home” for many parents in America, where school shootings occur almost every year.

The mother-of-two has been vocal about her anti-gun views and attended a protest outside the Tennessee State Capitol on Thursday.

She, along with thousands of others, held signs that read, “Protect Children, Not Guns” and “Going to School Shouldn’t Be a Death Sentence.”

The actress shared several photos and videos from the rally on Instagram, asking US lawmakers to change the country’s gun laws.

In the caption, she wrote: “We all want change! Yes, I know we all have different opinions and I respect them all. I’m so open to the conversation – but let’s START ANYWHERE!

“Today was extremely emotional. As I walked to the Capitol, I started crying. So many of us cried. We can’t live like this anymore and we all know that.

The Pretty Little Liars star said she used to be afraid to speak out on political issues for “fear of hate and ridicule,” but now she’s tired of being silent.

She added, “I’ve had so many conversations today with Conservatives, Democrats, Republicans and it’s unanimous that something needs to be done.

“We all want to send our children to school and know that they will come home.”

To try to protect her daughters, Tammin bought them bulletproof backpacks but said, “This is not normal”.

“We know it’s NOT NORMAL to buy bulletproof backpacks and lace-free shoes so our kids don’t fall when running from a gunman!” she continued on the Instagram post.

“I beg you not to remain silent. I beg you to try to find a way to move forward together.

“I beg of you if you have a social media platform to open the conversation with your followers.

“This has never been an argument about legally owning a gun as a law-abiding citizen. That has never been the problem. Sensible and sensible regulations that make sense. For all of us!!!

‘Let’s get together. We are so much more alike than we are different. We can do this.’

On Monday, Tammin was getting old when she found out her daughter’s school was closed as a precaution.

“There was an active shooter at one of the schools in Nashville… It’s right next door to my daughter’s school. She’s locked up, she’s fine,” she said at the time.

“I know a lot of other moms are in complete hysterics and shaking right now because I can’t believe this keeps happening. And you always think that’s not going to happen to you.’
