Tank deliveries would only prolong the suffering of Ukrainians says

Tank deliveries would only “prolong” the suffering of Ukrainians, says the Kremlin

Deliveries of armored infantry and other weapons to Ukraine, announced by several Western countries last week, will only “prolong the suffering” of Ukrainians and will not “change” the balance of power, according to the Kremlin.

“Europe, NATO and the United States have already pumped tens of billions of dollars into Ukraine and arms supplies,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

“Fundamentally, these deliveries cannot and will not change anything… These deliveries can only prolong the suffering of the Ukrainian people,” he added.

Last week, the United States announced major new military aid to Ukraine worth more than $3 billion, including 50 Bradley-class armored infantrymen and dozens of other armored vehicles.

For its part, Berlin has announced that it intends to send 40 Marder armored vehicles, light armored vehicles for troop transport and one Patriot anti-aircraft battery to the Ukrainian army in the first quarter of 2023.

And France said it was sending an unspecified number of AMX-10 RC light main battle tanks.

Since the start of the Russian offensive against Ukraine in February 2022, Western countries have been supporting Kyiv financially and militarily, in particular by supplying cannons.

Ukrainian authorities are demanding heavy tanks that can be used in the attack phases, but their allies have so far refused to do so, fearing provoking an escalation with Moscow.
