Development of the feature film was first revealed to the public in 2018, and Spielberg, Quincy Jones and Oprah Winfrey, who starred in the 1985 film, are all serving as executive producers on the project.
Last year, it was announced that Henson had joined the cast of the project and would play Shug Avery.
