Baldur’s Gate 3 has a sometimes…unexpected richness. Larian Studios’ title is full of details that even disappear into the tattoos available in the character editor. A word of advice before you cover yourself in ink: take the time to learn the alphabet of the underworld, otherwise you might be in for an unpleasant (albeit very funny) surprise.
A dive into DnD history
It is clearly the RPG of the year: Baldur’s Gate III takes us on a Dantesque adventure to the borders of Faerûn. A fascinating journey from start to finish, with rich and engaging writing that rests on a solid foundation. Because yes, if you didn’t know, you should know that Baldur’s Gate III, like its predecessors, comes from the universe of Dungeons and Dragons, the famous board game franchise.
In fact, in software we find everything that forms the foundations of this universe. The various races, factions, religions and deities, locations… in short, the many elements created for Dungeons and Dragons are faithfully reproduced here. In particular, following this logic, it is possible to find several alphabets and languages invented for DnD in Baldur’s Gate III. You can also discover a preview of it at the beginning of the experience in character creation. The various tattoos on offer consist of several symbols that go beyond the purely aesthetic aspect. These tattoos have a meaning that is not without humor.

Larian’s good joke
It’s a fact that Baldur’s Gate III can be very funny at times, but this joke is certainly more subtle than others. TikToker TheWingedBaron made his discovery by looking at the character editor’s tattoos. Upon closer inspection, he quickly realized that they were infernal runes, which can be deciphered by learning the infernal alphabet from Dungeons and Dragons. An alphabet that Larian seems to have mastered perfectly. If you like meaningful tattoos, maybe take the time to learn the hellish runes.
On the nose is simply the word “nose” in the infernal alphabet. The same goes for the forehead. And if you happen to want to get a tattoo on your neck, you can show your allegiance to the developers as the tattoo corresponds to the words “Larian Studios”. The joke is obviously very funny and only hints at how many secrets Larian may have hidden in his game. When you have these tattoos, you will no longer wonder why Karlach and the Tieflings of the Emerald Grove sometimes look at you with a strange look.
