Taylor Swift breaks Barbra Streisand’s record

Taylor Swift has overtaken Barbra Streisand for most number-one albums by a US artist.

Previously, the two singers were tied with 11 number ones each. But since the release of her most recent album, Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), the 33-year-old singer has been a step ahead of her 81-year-old colleague.

Speak Now (Taylor’s version) was released on July 7th and quickly reached #1 on the podium. The vinyl format alone has sold 268,500 copies in the US, and according to Pitchfork the record is the second best-selling vinyl of modern times, behind his tenth album, Midnights.

The American superstar also became the first living artist to have four simultaneous Top 10 albums since 1966, with Folklore, Lover, Midnights and Speak Now (Taylor’s version) all currently charting in the Top 10 on the Billboard 200.

Pop Crave reported that one in 25 vinyls sold in 2022 was by Taylor Swift. She’s also the first artist – male or female – to sell nine albums in one week, exceeding 500,000 copies.

Taylor Swift has been touring the world with her show Eras since March 17th. The tour, which is scheduled to feature 131 dates across five continents, begins in Glendale, Arizona and concludes in London on August 17, 2024.
