The 34-year-old described how she came to write her Grammy-winning 2020 album Folklore and revealed she drank a lot during lockdown.
“I imagined that instead of being a lonely millennial covered in cat hair and drinking my weight in white wine, I was a ghostly Victorian lady wandering through the forest by the glow of a chandelier,” Taylor Swift told the 96,000 people at the Melbourne Cricket Ground while playing acoustic guitar. “And I just wrote on parchment with a quill pen. That’s what I was thinking about when I wrote Folklore.”
Before beginning a rendition of Betty, she concluded, “It didn't sound like I was writing folklore, but that's what I thought it would sound like!” That's all that matters: it's the illusion.”
Taylor Swift's next album, The Tortured Poets Department, is scheduled for release on April 19th.
