Gabriel Mongenot Santana Milhomem Santos was murdered in the early hours of this Sunday (19), 25 years old. The crime occurred during an attempted robbery on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro. Gabriel had gone into town with two other cousins to see the Taylor Swift concert.
The young man was a student of aerospace engineering at the Federal University of Minas Gerais. He was born in Mato Grosso do Sul and joined the course in 2020.
On Linkedin, the young man said he was “fascinated by topics such as space exploration, scientific discoveries and music.” “I am always looking for challenges that put me in situations where I can learn and contribute,” he said.
Gabriel was the son of the deputy secretary of the Social Assistance Secretariat (SAS) of Campo Grande, Inês Mongenot. Through social media, the city’s mayor, Adriane Lopes, expressed her condolences to the family of Inês and Gabriel. “May the memory of your son Gabriel be a beacon of love and may you find comfort in the most difficult times,” he wrote.
Understand the crime
Gabriel was on Copacabana beach, south of Rio de Janeiro, in the early hours of this Sunday (19) when three men approached him and tried to rob him.
Gabriel did not respond but was stabbed by Anderson Henriques Brandão, Alan Ananias Cavalcante and Jonathan Batista Barbosa. The incident occurred around 3 a.m. The police caught the case and arrested Anderson and Alan redhanded. They confessed to being involved in the crime.
Alan was released from prison on Saturday afternoon (11/18) after being arrested in the same Copacabana neighborhood on Friday (11/17) after stealing 80 chocolate bars. In a statement sent to the reporter, civil police said they were looking for Jonathan Batista.
“The Capital Homicide Police Station (DHC) is investigating the death of Gabriel Mongenot Santana Milhomem Santos. Witnesses were interviewed and reported that he was with a group of friends when he was approached by two criminals who announced the robbery. The victim was stabbed and did not fight back,” the note said.
