Taylor Swift is supported by her loving boyfriend Travis Kelce as she finally storms the stage on the first night of the Eras Tour in Sydney – after lightning strikes delayed the concert and caused chaos

Taylor Swift's first Sydney concert got off to a late start on Friday evening after storms and rain forced Accor Stadium to be temporarily evacuated.

Although opening act Sabrina Carpenter's set was canceled, Swift ultimately took the stage shortly after the scheduled time of 7:30 p.m.

Looking on proudly was her boyfriend Travis Kelce, who caused a stir in the crowd as he arrived to proudly watch his pop star lover do what she does best.

In videos shared on social media, the NFL star was seen entering the stadium before finding his seat in a special VIP box.

The footballer couldn't wipe the smile off his face as Taylor took to the stage in one of her iconic sparkly jerseys.

Travis opted for a chic blue patterned shirt and matching shorts, along with a pair of white sneakers.

He walked through the crowd applauding before being led to his VIP seat, where he beamed as he watched Taylor's performance.

Wild weather caused chaos in Sydney on Friday night for the 80,000 Swifties en route to their first show of the Eras Tour in the city.

Fans sitting on the ground and in the lower levels of the stadium were asked to move inside after lightning struck just 10 kilometers away just before 6pm.

A statement from Accor Stadium issued just before 6pm told concertgoers that the three-hour show had been delayed.

“Please note that the start of the show has been delayed due to weather,” it said.

“Remain masked until further notice and follow venue screens and staff instructions.”

“Stay safe and remember to be kind to those around you.”

Swift took the stage around 7:50 p.m., while her opening act Sabrina Carpenter was dropped from Friday night's performance.

Earlier, a man's voice could be heard over a loudspeaker in the stadium telling fans that lightning had struck 10 km away and ticket holders had to be evacuated.

Following the announcement, a stream of concertgoers, most wearing plastic rain ponchos, were seen moving into the covered areas of the stadium.

The Accor Stadium had announced that the show would go ahead unless there were “severe weather conditions that could affect the safety of artists and visitors.”

“I'm just really nervous about the rain. It's pretty clear here, but Accor still hasn't announced when the show will start,” one Sydney Swiftie, Annabelle, told Chron Australia before the show began.

“I’m just a little stressed about the noise curfew and everything.”

It is understood there will be a curfew at Accor Stadium from 11pm. The shows on Swift's Eras Tour last just under three and a half hours.

Taylor relaxed before the show as she and boyfriend Travis visited Sydney Zoo.

The pop star and her NFL star partner arranged to meet at the 16.5-acre site earlier this week ahead of Swift's three concerts in Australia's largest city, when they were even spotted petting a baby kangaroo.

For their meeting abroad in Australia, the two spare no expense and stay in one of the chicest and most extravagant hotels in Sydney.

The couple are staying at the plush Crown Towers, the city's first six-star hotel in the Barangaroo waterfront district, during Swift's four-day stay in Sydney for her Eras Tour.

With fine dining, lavish facilities and first-class amenities throughout the property, the venue offers a guaranteed luxurious experience that both Taylor and Travis are more than accustomed to.

Nevertheless, the loved-up couple opted for the most opulent – and expensive – room the hotel has to offer – the Crown Presidential Villa.

The palatial residence is so plush that guests need to inquire about nightly rates, which typically start at an eye-watering $16,300 (AUD$25,000) per night.

The two-story hotel room is considered the largest villa on the property at 860 square meters and is located on the 88th floor. It offers stunning panoramic views of Sydney and Sydney Harbor through floor-to-ceiling windows.

Taylor's visit comes after she literally brought traffic to a standstill as she went out to dinner in Sydney on Tuesday night.

The global superstar shocked onlookers at Pellegrino 2000, a neighborhood trattoria in Surry Hills.

Looking every bit the local hipster, Taylor opted for a simple black gypsy top paired with a brown suede skirt for the outing.

She took advantage of her evening off with fellow singer Sabrina Carpenter, who is currently accompanying Taylor on her sold-out Eras Tour.

The “Girl Meets World” star dazzled in a red minidress with white fringe details and simple tights at the back.

Sabrina accessorized her look with a classic Louis Vuitton handbag and wore a black leather jacket to protect herself from Sydney's unpredictable weather of late.

Taylor is currently enjoying some downtime in Sydney after her Eras Tour took Melbourne by storm and sold out the famous MCG for three days.

Swift will perform four shows in Sydney from Friday, February 23rd to Monday, February 26th.
