Taylor Swift is Time Magazine’s Person of the Year

(CNN Spanish) – Taylor Swift has been named Time’s Person of the Year for 2023. “Swift’s achievements as an artist (cultural, critical and commercial) are so numerous that it almost seems inappropriate to list them,” says the magazine’s article dedicated to the singer.

“As a pop star, she is in select company alongside Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson and Madonna; As a songwriter she has been compared to Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney and Joni Mitchell,” the text continues.

Swift beat out eight other finalists, including OpenAI’s Sam Altman, Hollywood Strikers, Barbie and Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell.

“She became the main figure of the world,” the Time article said. “If you’re skeptical, think about this: How many conversations have you had about Taylor Swift this year? “How many times have you seen a photo of her while browsing on your phone?” the Time article adds, before listing all the actions millions of Swift fans take every day.

Related: Swift’s “Eras Tour” was StubHub’s largest tour in the site’s history, and female artists, including Swift, Beyoncé and Pink, accounted for 73% of the top 10 artists’ total sales on the world tour, which also included Coldplay, U2 and belonged to Bruce Springsteen.

Swift’s “Eras Tour” brought in about $2.2 billion in ticket sales in North America alone, according to research firm QuestionPro, showing how incredible demand for entertainment and experiences helped boost the economy.

Swift dominated not only Super Bowl-sized stadiums, but also local movie theaters.

According to AMC, the pop singer’s concert film “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” grossed approximately $96 million in its opening weekend at the box office in the United States and Canada, making it the highest domestic opening weekend grosser.

Without a doubt, 2023 was a great year for Taylor Swift.
