Taylor Swift is presented with the key to the city of Arlington, Texas after a street was temporarily renamed Taylor Swift Way in her honor

A big honor is given to Taylor Swift ahead of her three-day run this weekend in Arlington, Texas.

On Thursday, the city announced that the 33-year-old pop superstar, who won the Innovator Award at this week’s iHeartRadio Music Awards, would be presented with a Key of the City.

In a city press release, Arlington boasted that it “is in friendly competition with other US cities hosting the Eras Tour to showcase its ‘reputation’ as one of Swift’s biggest fans.”

It noted that Las Vegas had recently illuminated its Gateway Arches in colors corresponding to different eras of Swift’s career, while also poking fun at Glendale, Arizona for going overboard by briefly changing its name to Swift City .

Arlington hoped to have found an appropriate middle ground by renaming a street after the anti-hero singer.

The city said it will put up a temporary street sign to rename Randol Mill Road to Taylor Swift Way for next weekend when it’s in town.

Fans were encouraged to stop by the temporary sign for photo opportunities as AT&T Stadium, where she will be performing, can be seen in the background from this location.

Arlington Mayor Jim Ross, dubbed the “Swiftie,” declared it “Taylor Swift Weekend.”

A series of four-story steel sculptures on display outside City Hall would also be illuminated with red light in honor of her hugely successful 2012 album, of which she recently released a recorded version.

Mayor Ross planned to be the person to present Swift with her key to the city, which he hoped she could cherish “forever and ever.”

Arlington also detailed a plan to help cats in need that was inspired by Taylor’s famous feline friends.

City residents could adopt a cat (or other pet) from Arlington Animal Services for $40, “in honor of Swift’s 40 Top 10 Hits.”

Animals who had been at the shelter longer or were older could be adopted for as little as $9, “in honor of Swift’s 9 No. 1 hits.”

Taylor’s triumphant tour stop in Arlington comes just days after she was honored with the Innovator Award at the iHeartRadio Music Awards on Monday.

In accepting the award, the singer-songwriter spoke about her desire to try new things rather than focus on making established music.

She also said part of her secret is giving herself “permission to fail” as she tries to shake up her career.

Taylor concluded by stating that she gives herself permission to fail, and she urged her fans to give themselves the same permission.
