Taylor Swift has spoken out about a fan who died before her Eras Tour show began in Brazil on Friday.
The singer-songwriter took to her Instagram Story to share a statement that read, “I can’t believe I’m writing these words, but it’s with a broken heart that I say we lost a fan before my show tonight. “I can’t tell you how devastated I am about this. I have very little information about her being so incredibly beautiful and far too young.”
She continued: “I won’t be able to talk about it on stage because I feel overwhelmed with grief if I even try to talk about it.” I want to say now that I feel this loss deeply and My broken heart goes out to her family and friends. That’s the last thing I ever thought would happen when we decided to bring this tour to Brazil.”
Swift just began the international leg of her Eras Tour in Latin America last week, which began with stops in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She then traveled to Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, for the first of three nights on Friday.
Although few details have been released about what led to the fan’s death, Swift’s statement follows videos circulating on social media showing the singer throwing water bottles at fans from the stage during the concert in Brazil. People on social media also claim that the stadium hosting the show banned fans from bringing water bottles as temperatures soared to nearly 100 degrees on Friday.
Swift was also once seen in a video stopping the show to make sure fans got water. “There are people here who need water, maybe 30, 35, 40 feet back,” she said to the crowd. “Whoever is responsible for giving them this is just making sure that happens. Can I get a signal that you know where they are?”
