Taylor Swift’s security guard claims he was fired after asking fans to take pictures of him
A Minneapolis security officer who went viral for singing during a Taylor Swift concert claims he was fired for asking fans to take pictures of him, despite saying he “did my job” .
Calvin Denker was spotted singing “Cruel Summer” near the stage while working for security firm BEST in June by a fan who posted the clip on TikTok – to which he responded.
In his response, he revealed that he had shared notes with those before him asking for them to send any photos he “found his way to,” which turned out to be a crucial factor for his employers.
In his latest update, he revealed: “Long story short, I got fired for this.” My previous security company said it was forbidden to take pictures with artists.
“The main problem they had was my follow-up video where I said I gave out notes asking them to send me all the photos I managed to get.”
You’re fired: Calvin Denker has revealed he’s lost his job for asking Taylor Swift fans to take photos of him and the singer while he was working as a security guard – he had previously gone viral when he was filmed singing along to the 2019 hit song “Cruel Summer” (via)
Eras: The superstar singer performed at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis on June 23-24 – where Denker worked
In his original TikTok, Denker also admitted that once he landed his security job, which he applied for after appearing on the artist’s 2018 Reputation Tour with the security spoke.
He fulfilled that by working at US Bank Stadium on June 23-24, saying, “After the first night I realized how close Taylor got to me, so I really wanted to take a picture to document it. “
“So I passed out these little notes saying I’m not allowed to take my phone out, but if Taylor Swift comes right behind me, please take a picture of me and text it to my number.”
Some of those in the front row complied, although Denker clarified that the person who posted the viral clip of him singing in wasn’t one of them.
However, in the Aug. 17 follow-up, Denker reiterated that “most importantly, I made sure that Taylor Swift was safe and that all the fans were having a good time.”
He insisted, “I did my job.”
But the former security guard revealed he received the fateful call from HR “a few days” after he admitted giving out his contact details, asking for pictures of him and his idol.
Denker said, “Moreover, the HR woman who called me couldn’t articulate exactly what I was doing wrong.”
Curiously, he also revealed that after unclear communications about when his stint at BEST would end, he was given shifts for Ed Sheeran’s concert at the same venue on August 12 and was able to work there.
Denker claimed he was finally officially fired after the seven-hour shift.
BEST crowd management and event security services have been contacted for comment.
Up close: After the first night, Denker realized just how close he was to the singer, which inspired him to request pictures of those in attendance
