Teacher arrested for sexually abusing students in cemetery

A 25yearold teacher from Nebraska, USA, was accused of having sex with a 17yearold student. Cali Heikes was arrested after being accused of picking up the student from his home and taking him to the cemetery, where local authorities say relations were taking place.

The arrest was confirmed after a deputy received a call from the Department of Health and Human Resources on January 20, saying the teacher had a relationship with the student, according to court documents accessed by the Daily Star .

The same congressman says the situation was discovered after a police officer stopped the student’s car on January 12 and asked him where he was going. The teenager said he was visiting the cemetery with his “friend Cali”.

Days later, when police approached the student’s sister, she reportedly said that the teacher would enter the student’s room at night to play “hot pranks.” She added that the couple met away from home two or three times a week. Authorities also found text messages between the two.

In addition, other family members reportedly told police that the boy asked them how they would react if “he was dating a 25yearold.”

Although the age of consent for sexual intercourse in Nebraska is 16, sex between a teacher and a student is considered illegal in the state due to the authority a teacher has over a student, and the crime is considered a Class IIA felony.

If convicted, Heikes faces up to 20 years in prison. The teacher posted bail of $2,000, or about R$10,257, a day after his arrest.
