Teachers in England should not have to accept requests from students seeking to “socially transition” at school, according to new transgender guidelines issued by England’s Department for Education (DFE) in response to “the complex phenomenon of the increasing number of children who “Ask Your Own Questions” was published by Gender.”
The draft guidelines state that if a student changes, teachers and staff will not face sanctions if they do not adopt new pronouns. “Schools are encouraged to take measures such as changing names and uniforms or using other facilities to help a child look more like the opposite sex, with the expectation that they will be treated as if they were,” it said it in the document. “This is often referred to as social transition.”

“It makes clear that schools do not have to accept a child's desire to socially transition and that teachers or students should not be pressured to use different pronouns,” she said. “We also recognize how important it is for parents to be informed and involved in the decisions that impact their children’s lives.”
