Hundreds of flights were canceled due to “technical problems” with British air traffic control. As the BBC reported yesterday, citing the aeronautical analysis company Cirium, a good 270 landings and more than 230 take-offs were cancelled. Many flights are delayed more than eight hours and are likely to be canceled during the day.
The National Air Traffic Services said the issue affecting its flight planning system has been “identified and corrected”. On social media, passengers bound for Britain reported one-hour delays and flight cancellations.
British Airways said the British airline had to make “significant changes” to its flight schedules. Short distances are particularly affected. Irish airlines Ryanair and Aer Lingus canceled several flights, particularly in Ireland. Earlier, the National Air Traffic Services said the agency had “imposed restrictions on traffic flow to ensure safety”.
