The baby is the youngest member of the prestigious Mensa Club and has achieved an IQ score of 139 out of 160. The mother: Super talented, but it’s important for us to keep him on the ground
She taught herself to read at the age of two and by the age of four she can count in six different languages: Mandarin, Welsh, French, Spanish and German and of course in her mother tongue English. The baby genius is called Teddy, he lives in Portishead, Somerset and joined the UK’s prestigious Mensa at the end of the year aged three years and seven months, a club only accessible to those who have achieved access or exceeds the 98th percentile of the IQ of the world population. The little boy managed to become the youngest member of the prestigious club after passing an IQ test, where he scored 139 out of 160 on the Stanford-Binet test (the minimum score of 132), which put his own parents in Surprised: Beth Hobbs, 31, and husband Will, 41.
The exam
During the test I was worried Teddy wouldn’t be able to sit in front of a laptop for an hour, but he enjoyed it, the mum told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme. Playing with the tablet. He was playing Thomas the Tank Engine (the video game based on the cartoon Thomas the Train ed.) and was sitting there when he started making noises that I couldn’t decipher – he continues -. So I asked him what he said and he said, “Mom, I’m counting in Mandarin.” The child’s IQ is 99.5 for his age. percentile. A dowry that particularly worries his parents. Every two months, Teddy chooses a new topic to interest him in. Sometimes it’s numbers, for a while it was multiplication tables, then countries and maps – says Beth -. He doesn’t know right now that he’s a super gifted boy and that’s okay. We all have our individual talents and we will try to keep it “normal” for as long as possible. He’s starting to understand now that his friends can’t read, but we help him see it just like this: “Okay, well, I can read, but my friend can outrun me.” It’s really important for us to keep him grounded. When he grows up he wants to be a doctor… in kindergarten he always plays “healing” toys with his friend.
What is canteen
Mensa is an international, non-profit association open to individuals who have reached or exceeded the 98th percentile of Qi (intelligence quotient) in the world population. To become a Mensano (this is how a member of Mensa defines themselves, ed.), you have to be in the 2% of the world’s population with the highest IQ. This means that you must have a minimum score of 148 (Sd 24) on the Cattell test. Analogous IQ tests have a different measurement, so a 148 on Cattell corresponds to a 130 (SD 15) on the Wechsler test and 132 (SD 16) on the Stanford-Binet test. Standard psychometric tests are used to access the association. Mensa derives from the Latin word mensa (table) and describes the concept of a round table at which all members are equal to each other. It’s essentially the same concept as King Arthur’s Knights of the Round Table.
