A 14-year-old teenager is in critical condition following an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) accident that occurred on Sunday afternoon in Notre-Dame-de-la-Merci, in the Lanaudière region.
At around 2:00 p.m., rescue workers went to the intersection of Chemin de Notre-Dame-de-la-Merci and Chemin des Viornes because an ATV swerved.
According to our initial information gathered, the driver was alone on board and lost control of his SUV, said Catherine Bernard, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
The young driver was taken to a hospital where he fears for his life.
Speed may have played a role in the evasion, as could the driver not wearing his safety helmet, Ms. Bernard said.
A police officer trained in accident investigation was on site to clarify the circumstances of this accident.
