If you were hoping Dylan O’Brien would be one of the “later announced” names for the upcoming Teen Wolf reunion movie, we’ve got some bad news.
In an interview with our sister publication Variety, O’Brien confirmed that he will not be reprising his role as Stiles in Teen Wolf: The Movie, which premieres at Paramount+ later this year.
“It was a difficult decision,” O’Brien says. “A lot went into it. The show couldn’t be more dear to me. It was the first thing I did and so many people there are very dear to me. This was what I was trying to get to work, but it all happened very quickly. We didn’t really know this was happening and they just gave us a little bit of it and that’s okay because we all love this show. We tried to find out.”
“In the end, I just decided that he stayed in a really good place for me, and I still want to leave him there,” he continues. “I wish them all the best and I’m going to watch it the first night it comes out. I hope it’s fucking cool, but I’m not going to be involved in this.”
Original cast confirmed to appear in the film: Tyler Posey as Scott, Holland Roden as Lydia, Shelley Hennig as Malia, Crystal Reed as Allison, Ornie Adams as Coach, Linden Ashby as Sheriff Stilinski, JR Bourne in Chris Argent, Seth Gilliam. as Dr. Deaton, Colton Haynes as Jackson, Ryan Kelly as Deputy Parrish, Melissa Ponzio as Melissa and Dylan Sprayberry as Liam.
TVLine spoke to Ian Boen (aka Peter) about his possible return, to which he said he would “love to do it,” adding, “I know they’re filming here pretty soon, so you’ll have a definite yes.” or not”. for certain. But I am positive about it. I wouldn’t want to watch a movie that doesn’t have Derek and Peter in it.”
Derek, of course, was played by Tyler Hoechlin, who also has no plans to return. When we asked him about this possibility, he gave us a vague answer: “That I can neither confirm nor deny. We’ll see. There’s a lot going on, but at the moment I don’t have any confirmation. Everything is possible in this world.”
Another major absence is Arden Cho as Kira Yukimura. According to Deadline, Chow was approached to star in the film, but turned it down when she was only offered half the salary of her three main female co-stars.
Written by series creator Geoff Davis, Teen Wolf: The Movie tells the story of “a full moon rising in Beacon Hills, and with it a terrible evil. The wolves howl again, calling for the return of the banshees, werecoyotes, hellhounds, kitsune and all other werewolves in the night. But only a werewolf like Scott McCall, no longer a teenager but still an alpha, can muster both new allies and reunite trusted friends to fight back against what may be the most powerful and deadly foe they’ll ever face. encountered.”
