Last Saturday, November 5th, the official broadcast of the Telethon 2022 took place on SBT, which tries to raise funds for the AACD every year, and throughout the day several were present to either talk about the importance of donating or something to put on a show and cheer up the audience.
Among the celebrities who were present throughout the night, we can highlight Sophia Valverde, Maisa Silva, Lexa, Vanessa Camaro, KLB, Juliette Freire, Daniel, Carlinhos Maia, Tiago Abravanel, Silvia Abravanel and Patricia Abravanel.
Additionally, BRL 34 million was raised during this 24hour fundraiser, beating the event’s record and beating the BRL 30 million goal set at the start of the campaign, an attitude that will surely help many patients.
It is worth noting that Silvio Santos was not in charge of the event this year, nor were Raul Gil and Carlos Alberto de Nóbrega, great presenters of the channel. Eliana, Patrícia Abravanel and Celso Portiolli straight out of the hospital were some names that drew the blocks.

CAMPAIGN DETAILS
Aside from putting the issue of people with physical disabilities on the agenda and bringing this important pillar of inclusion into Brazilian homes, the Telethon has already benefited many people from different parts of the country in practical ways. The amount collected throughout history has enabled around 15 million visits and the construction of 10 units.
“When we started this development in 1998, the needs of people with physical disabilities were not a priority. Of course we still have a lot to evolve, but the fact is that this scenario has changed a lot and I’m sure that visibility and the care the AACD has given to its patients has made a significant difference. Today, issues such as inclusion and accessibility are part of our everyday lives,” says Valdesir Galvan, CEO of AACD.
In contrast to that legacy, the AACD Telethon Campaign has suffered from a drop in donations from individuals in recent years, particularly following the onset of the Covid19 pandemic. For example, compared to last year’s 2018, the decrease is about 60% that’s more than 80,000 visitors at the AACD.
“With the SUS table frozen for 15 years and this drop in donations occurring, we have struggled to sustain the approximately 800,000 consultations we do annually. This edition of the telethon can be a milestone in this recovery, we are counting on the solidarity and commitment of the Brazilian people,” affirms Galvan.
Today, in addition to the seven rehabilitation units, five orthopedic workshops, and one orthopedic hospital, the AACD has five technical collaborative partnerships that enable other civil society organizations to adhere to their protocols through professional training, expertise sharing, and constant monitoring.
