The 164th player in the world won in the second round in three sets with 6:1, 4:6 and 7:6 (5) at the expense of the former number 3 in the ATP scene and favorite of the competition.

It took the 22-year-old winner more than two hours to topple the current holder of 72nd place on the international chess board. His 15 aces and a point rate of 82% on his first serves enabled him to advance to the next round against Slovakian Lukas Klein (149th).

Most recently, Diallo distinguished himself by defeating, among others, the Italian Lorenzo Musetti (18th in the world) during a match in the group stage of the Davis Cup in September. A month earlier, he drew attention by knocking out Britain’s Daniel Evans, then ranked 21st in the ATP, in the first round of the National Bank Open in Toronto.
