Jelena Dokic has revealed her plans for having children following the heartbreaking split from longtime boyfriend Tin Bikic.

The former professional tennis player, 40, said while she doesn’t want biological children, she is open to adoption.

“My ex-boyfriend Tin and I wanted to have children. Maybe this situation won’t happen to me, and that’s okay, I’ve come to terms with it,” she told Woman’s Day.

“But when I have children – and I want children because I love them – I will go down the adoption route.” That’s what I’ve always wanted to do.

“There are a lot of unfortunate kids out there who need love and a stable home and I think I can provide that even when I’m alone.” could do for years,” she added.

Jelena announced her split from Bikic in January last year and has remained single ever since.

Over the weekend, Jelena spoke about her eating disorder in Stellar magazine.

The elite athlete revealed that she struggled with her relationship with food for years due to the trauma she experienced growing up.

She said much of her eating disorder stemmed from the abuse she suffered at the hands of her father and his use of food as a weapon when she was a teenager.

“Actually, I didn’t talk about my eating disorder [before] because I haven’t understood it for so long,” she said.

“But now I know that more than 90 percent of people have eating disorders because of trauma.”

The sports commentator continued: “The professional help saved my life.” I find the eating disorder quite complex. I’m working really hard on it.’

Jelena assured that she made great progress in healing the trauma she experienced at the beginning of her tennis career and as a refugee child.

She said writing her memoir, Fearless: Finding The Power To Thrive, was a “big step” and admitted she now has “more balance” in her life.

The Australian has long been open about her struggles with depression, social media abuse, body shaming and family violence that she has endured throughout her career.
