Surveillance footage showed the moment a suspected Gatorade thief attempted to stab a security guard with a hypodermic needle in New York City as crime continued to rise in the Big Apple.

A black-clad thief is seen stuffing a bag of Gatorades and other items from a refrigerator at a Duane Reade pharmacy in the Murray Hill neighborhood on Saturday, police said.

Security cameras caught the suspect trying to get through the front door with the stolen goods before being stopped by a 64-year-old security guard who was holding on to the thief’s bag.

The two immediately get into a scuffle, with the guard refusing to let go of the bag.

The guard is able to get the best of the suspect and the bag falls to the ground, causing a pile of sports drinks and other items to fall out and litter the floor.

The suspect then backs away to the entrance and returns, suddenly pointing a hypodermic needle at the guard.

Police said the guard had slight pain in his left hand but refused medical attention. The NYPD is still looking for the suspect.

The frightening incident comes as crime in New York City has increased by nearly 45 percent.

A recent survey of more than 9,000 employees found that 40 percent of Manhattan workers wanted to relocate due to rising crime. About 48 percent of workers in the other four districts agreed.

But crime in the Big Apple doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon.
