Terrifying moment: New York restaurant-goers discover a RAT in the window next to the Class “A” health inspection sign.

A restaurant-goer in New York City was outraged when he discovered a rat in the window of a restaurant, ironically sitting next to a health inspection “A” sign.

The large rodent was seen scurrying around Dixon Place on Saturday evening, sitting next to feces in front of the emblazoned health sign on the top step.

The health department has given the theater, located on Chrystie Street in downtown Manhattan, an “A” grade for sanitation.

In addition to performance space, the building features a full bar.

In the horrific clip, a woman tapped on the glass to see if the rat was moving, as its long brown tail was clearly visible on the wooden ledge.

The animal then quickly hopped behind the hygiene sign before craning its head to the other side to see the women on the street head-on.

A third person joked: “That’s just the Ratatouille guy, he’s cool.”

While another chimed in: “A” stands for “A really bad rating.”

“He’s working hard to keep the place clean!” said another social media user, while others joked that this was like any other place in New York City with excessive rats roaming around.

According to the Ministry of Health, all Category “A” facilities must seal all cracks, crevices and holes in walls, cupboards and doors to prevent the entry of rodents, cockroaches and flies.

They are told to install rodent-proof door sweeps on exterior doors and store food and trash in pest-proof containers.

Establishments seeking an “A” grade must “remove grease, oil and food debris from all surfaces and equipment, including the floor below, and have a contract with a pest control professional licensed to work in restaurants.”
