Tesla FSD Beta users can turn off steering wheel nags

Tesla FSD Beta users can turn off steering wheel nags this January – TESLARATI

This January comes a welcome update to Tesla’s FSD beta fleet. As CEO Elon Musk recently confirmed, members of the FSD beta program would soon be able to turn off steering wheel grumbling while using the advanced driver assistance system.

FSD Beta is Tesla’s most advanced driver assistance solution, and its development is key to the company’s goal of achieving true autonomous driving. With this in mind, Tesla has been extremely cautious about using FSD Beta, to the point where users are constantly monitored to ensure they are using the system properly.

Because of this, it was not surprising that Tesla introduced steering wheel nags to test driver attentiveness when using FSD Beta. This wasn’t a bad solution when FSD Beta was in its early stages, but as the system’s performance saw notable improvements, steering wheel nags eventually became a nuisance for some testers. This has led to numerous FSD beta testers urging Tesla to retract the steering wheel nag.

This was especially the case as Tesla Vision already uses the in-cab camera to verify whether or not a driver is paying attention to the road. As such, some FSD beta users have argued that improving Tesla Vision’s in-cab driver controls is probably a better solution than keeping the use of steering wheel nags.

Fortunately, Tesla CEO Elon Musk seems to be on the same page. Responding to a tweet from longtime FSD beta tester @WholeMarsBlog, who noted that testers with 10,000+ miles on FSD beta should have the ability to turn off the wheel nags, Musk noted that he agrees with the FSD -Beta testers agree. Musk stated that an update would come to address these concerns coming this January.

With the option to turn off steering wheel nags, FSD Beta users could essentially have a hands-on driving experience. This is a notable change and indicates Tesla’s increasing reliance on its advanced driver assistance system. However, the update would likely only roll out to vehicles equipped with an in-cab camera, so FSD Beta users with older Model S and Model X models – which don’t have an in-cab camera – may still have to settle for the steering wheel nags.
