Elon Musk has stated that with every part of the Tesla Model X, safety is paramount. This was proven recently when a family of four survived a horrific accident near Möhlin, Switzerland, with only minor injuries.
The incident happened around 10.45am on Sunday morning on the A3. According to accident reports, a family of four was driving their Tesla Model X in the direction of Basel when they went off the road. The all-electric SUV eventually broke through a deer fence and fell down an embankment.
This caused the Tesla Model X to overturn several times before coming to a stop on its side. Images of the accident were chilling as the vehicle was so damaged it no longer looked like a Model X.
According to a report by the canton of Aargau, the emergency services immediately found that there were children in the Model X. Fortunately, or almost miraculously, police and emergency services found the 47-year-old driver, his 39-year-old wife and their two children, six and nine, responsive.
A rescue helicopter was sent to the scene of the accident and the mother and children were flown to the University Hospital in Basel. The Model X driver was taken to a medical facility in Liestal. All four suffered only minor injuries, according to initial reports.
The Tesla Model X that the family was in is a total loss. Such losses are worth it, however, considering that the vehicle was able to adequately protect its occupants despite the severity of the impact.
