Tesla had to issue another “recall”. This is really just another wireless software update for a few cars in the United States.
Recently, Tesla had to issue a number of recalls, most of which were minor issues fixed by a simple radio software update.
For example, an automaker has issued a recall reported as a “massive” recall on more than 800,000 vehicles due to a “seatbelt problem.” This sounds pretty bad, but it actually had something to do with a reminder alert to tighten the buckle. Seat belts that may not be visible under very special conditions.
This week, Tesla launched another product that goes beyond delays and is now called a “radio recall” to display rear-view images of some vehicles. According to the submission to NHTSA:
Tesla, Inc. (Tesla) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Model S, Model X, and 2017-2020 Model 3 vehicles equipped with Autopilot Computer 2.5 and operating specific firmware releases. The rear view image may not be displayed immediately when the vehicle begins to move backwards. As a result, these vehicles do not comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 111 “Rearward View”.
As mentioned above, it only affects some Tesla vehicles equipped with the Autopilot 2.5 computer. Tesla believes that only 947 vehicles will be affected.
“Remedies” are mentioned in the filing:
Tesla runs wireless (OTA) software updates for free. The notice to the owner will be mailed on May 17, 2022. Owners can contact Tesla Customer Service (1-877-798-3752). The Tesla number for this recall is SB-22-00-004.
Interestingly, the delay between the recall notification and the owner notification is very important, but software update fixes may occur sooner if they haven’t already been done.
