The Texas mother of five, 28, was hit and killed by a driver outside her home after defending her 11-year-old daughter from thugs who showed up outside to torment the boy

A Texas mother of five was killed when she was run over by a car in San Antonio while defending her 11-year-old daughter from thugs in the middle of the street.

Ashley Lopez, 28, was in the middle of an argument with another woman that police said included at least 30 people and began arguing with another woman on the evening of January 11.

Pennie Gomez, 36, who was involved, walked and got into a silver Hyundai Sonata and purposely drove toward the two women, killing Lopez and injuring the woman she was fighting.

To make matters worse, someone noticed Lopez was under Gomez’s car trying to get it off her when Gomez just jumped off and dragged her 20 to 30 feet.

Witnesses recorded the gruesome incident with cellphone cameras, and two passengers in Gomez’s car got out and returned to the scene to confirm it.

Speaking Sunday, Lopez’s mom, Ana Blanco, said she only had one question: “Why would you do that?”

Blanco told KENS5 Lopez was defending her 11-year-old daughter from school bullies who showed up at their home when the fight broke out.

She and Lopez’s sister-in-law Andrea Mata say they believe Gomez’s daughter was living with Lopez at the time, although they say they don’t know her.

‘According to our memory, [Lopez and Gomez] didn’t fight. There was nothing between them, no bad blood,’ said Mata.

Gomez was charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. She is currently being held in a county jail on $251,000 bail.

She was already wanted for drug possession.

When asked about the hit-and-run, Gomez responded by demanding her right to an attorney.

Blanco and Mata say they plan to attend the hearings in hopes of getting an answer as to why Lopez was killed.

For now, they’ve partnered with a local motorcycle club to raise money for Lopez’s funeral.

They also plan to host a BBQ fundraiser next weekend.
