'That 70's Show' Actor Guilty of Rape: Danny Masterson Denied Bail

The court ruled that actor Danny Masterson (That 70's show), who was convicted of two counts of sexual assault and sentenced to 30 years in prison, had too much incentive to avoid the consequences of his actions if he were granted bail while he awaited the appeal of his case.

“The defendant does not have a wife waiting for him at home. “He now has great incentive to run away and little reason to return to serve the remainder of his long prison sentence if his appeal is unsuccessful,” a Los Angeles Superior Court judge ruled.

In May 2023, Masterson was convicted of two sexual assault charges relating to three events between 2001 and 2003. A few months later he was sentenced to 30 years in prison without the possibility of parole.

According to Deadline, Masterson's lawyers filed this bail request so that the fallen actor could be there for his children and provide for his family's financial needs. Home detention and the electronic geolocation monitor were suggested as alternatives to state prison, but the judge didn't bat an eyelid.
