Nowadays there are countless ways to earn money outside of your job. You can walk dogs, rent out your place on Airbnb, and even help someone find a date online.
One particular side hustle that is relatively easy to learn and could help you earn thousands of dollars in passive income is selling prints online. Printables are digital lists, maps, tables, etc. that you upload and sell on online stores like Etsy and Shopify. Shoppers can either use them on their devices or print them at home.
Starting your store is pretty simple: You want to come up with an idea using suggestions from sites like Pinterest, create your printables on sites like Canva.com, and then list them using keywords you find using tools like Ubersuggest.
And when it comes to diving in, experts have some advice: “Do it with other people,” says Julie Berninger, an Etsy printable seller with her very own course on hustling.
When you start a business, “there’s so much to learn and it becomes overwhelming,” says Rachel Jimenez, whose Etsy shop brought in more than $110,000 in passive income in 2022. As a result, you’ll likely make a lot of it. You’ll make mistakes along the way, and “it just won’t be the best possible work,” says Berninger.
This is where having a network of other people around you who have done this before comes into play. You can ask specific questions there, e.g. “How do I use social media?” or “How do I figure out what keywords to use?” says Jimenez, and they can help point you in the best direction. This means: “You can get feedback and iterate and experiment quickly,” says Berninger.
Ultimately, the support group helps “shorten the learning curve,” says Berninger, and ensure you achieve success more quickly.
Jimenez herself found her network by taking Berninger’s course, which provides access to a Facebook group of fellow students.
To find your own community, you can take similar courses with built-in student networks, look for other Facebook groups with printable sellers, find Reddit threads where people ask questions, follow Etsy sellers on Instagram or TikTok and those of them Join curated communities Or even reach out to other sellers on Etsy directly to see if they would be willing to help you.
Finding people who face the same challenges in their professional lives is not only a great way to find solutions to your immediate problems, but also a way to stay motivated.
Starting a printing side business — or any other business — “can be lonely,” Berninger says. But when you do it with other people, you can “feel like, ‘Okay, I’m not alone,'” Jimenez says.
