The 2023-2024 ski season officially opens in the Quebec region as four ski resorts will be open on Saturdays and Sundays.
Although the thermometer was above freezing yesterday, the cold weather in recent weeks was enough to allow for adequate artificial snowmaking. Real snowflakes also fell occasionally in most locations.
Near Quebec, Stoneham, Le Relais and Mont-Sainte-Anne began their ski activities yesterday morning. Evening skiing is also possible in Stoneham and Lac-Beauport. Due to the strike, there were a few more children on the slopes than usual yesterday.
In the current ranking of the most popular ski resorts in Quebec, according to the magazine Protégez-vous, the Le Relais ski center in Quebec takes first place.
Anywhere in Quebec
On the Charlevoix side, the first skiers and snowboarders will be able to ski down the nine accessible slopes starting Saturday morning. You’ll have to wait a little longer for the Massif du Sud, which is in fourth place in the Protégez-vous rankings.
Elsewhere, the alpine ski season has also begun in the Estrie region with the opening of the Mont-Orford and Owl’s Head ski areas.
Bromont, Camp Fortune, Mont Ste-Marie, Sutton, Saint-Sauveur and Tremblant, home of the World Cup White Circus, are also open this first weekend in December.
Also the founders
Cross-country skiing fans don’t have to wait either, as Forêt Montmorency, Camp Mercier and Mont-Sainte-Anne are open this weekend.
In Saint-Ferréol-les-Neiges there are six routes with a total length of 14 kilometers. All slopes are prepared for classic and skating.
In Quebec, skies should cooperate throughout the week with a few centimeters of natural snow and cold weather between -4°C and -16°C at night.
Still popular
Additionally, according to Royal LePage, prices for homes near popular ski resorts are expected to fall 2.9% next year if properties near the resorts perform reasonably well.
Although Mont-Sainte-Anne comes last in the ranking, the sector recorded an 83.4% increase in the average price of condominiums, particularly due to the wide range of styles and prices as well as the rarity of the properties. However, a moderate decline in property prices is expected in 2024.
In the first 10 months of the year, the average price of a detached single-family home in Quebec’s popular ski resorts rose 7.8% to $501,600.
