Subaru’s camera-based EyeSight safety system, which enables features like automatic emergency braking and adaptive cruise control, now has a third camera on top-of-the-line Outback Touring models to improve visibility. The wide-angle mono camera works in conjunction with EyeSight’s existing two stereoscopic cameras to expand the system’s view and detect pedestrians and bicycles at intersections earlier and respond faster.

They’re not the only cameras keeping an eye out, however. The Outback is also equipped with an infrared facial recognition system that uses lights and increasing sounds to remind the driver to keep their eyes on the road if they stray off the path. It can also identify exactly who is in the driver’s seat and greet them with personalized on-screen messages and reminders for the infotainment system, which now has wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration as standard in all trims.
