The 21-year-old SUNY student, who died last week after being accidentally attacked, was shot three times by her killer while shooting at a car and tried to escape safely, but collapsed.
Beth Howell, 21, was standing in front of a cello training building in Potsdam, upstate New York, on Feb. 18 when she was shot by Michael J. Snow.
Snow shot at her three times from his gray four-door sedan, then fled. She was found outside by friends after she tried to escape to safety, but collapsed. Howell, whose family lives in Patterson, New York, later died at the hospital.
Snow fled back to Massena, where he lives in a dilapidated house with a handful of others, including a man who was arrested last week for robbing a bank across the street.
He was detained on February 19 – his birthday – around 16.22.
His motive remains unclear, but friends and family of the victim say it appears to have been an accidental attack.

The state of New York told DailyMail.com that they have not yet found a connection between the couple.
Until recently, Snow lived in the house he shared with his late mother Paula, who died “unexpectedly” in 2019.
Friends and locals say she died of suicide in 2019, leaving Michael behind with a “long-term partner” who lives in Madrid. The circumstances surrounding her death are not entirely clear.
Sometime later, Snow made a friend, Raymond Lancto III, move into the house with him, but this man also died in 2020.
His death was described as an overdose of counterfeit fentanyl.
Lancto’s sister Angela Mosou told the DailyMail.com she had always wondered where he got the drugs from.

Snow was arrested at his home in Massena, New York, (above) on his birthday, February 19. He lived in his late mother’s old house, but moved into the common house above sometime after 2020.
Police told DailyMail.com that there was no connection between Snow (pictured) and Howell
Tragic background: In April 2019, Snow Paula’s mother died mysteriously and unexpectedly at their home. The following year, his roommate, Raymond Lancto, on the right, died on suspicion of an overdose.
Snow’s newer roommate, Jeffrey Howell (unrelated to his victim), was arrested earlier this month for robbing a bank in front of their home.
She said she had previously hired Snow to work as a dishwasher at her restaurant, but he could not keep his job because he was addicted to smoking and had to go to rehab.
Police have not confirmed whether he was addicted to drugs or not under the influence when he shot Howell last week.
He remains in the custody of St. Lawrence County Sheriffs, who will not say whether he is being held in the county jail or in the hospital.
Snow is charged with second-degree murder.
His next court hearing has not yet been scheduled.
Snow is said to have lived in the house on Main Street with Jeffrey Howell, who is in custody for robbing Massena Loans and Savings, a bank across the street from their home.
Beth Howell’s family says she was a “cute” girl who was in the wrong place at the wrong time
Howell, 34, is in custody after fleeing a $ 5,000 bank.
He was chased two blocks by the bank’s president before throwing money into the snow press and being detained by police.
Howell’s family and friends describe her as a “sweet” girl who was in the “wrong place at the wrong time.”
She had to finish SUNY Potsdam this year.
