A US-based travel influencer has revealed she had to “fight for her life” after being electrocuted in a “freak accident” in Thailand.

Cara Hodgson, 33, a social media star and orthodontist from Los Angeles, California, was “taken to the emergency room” and forced to spend 10 days “in and out of hospitals” after she died during a visit to the Asian country had suffered a terrible mishap.

According to the content creator, she was “killed by power lines” in a post she shared on her Instagram account on Monday as a “freak accident.”

And while she's now back home in the US, she explained that she's “still not out of the woods” and needs to make some “big lifestyle changes” so she can “regain her strength.”

“It was the worst 10 days of my life – I had to go back and forth to the hospital and fight to regain my strength and fight for my life. “I'm so happy to be here today.”

On her Instagram Stories, Cara sheds light on her journey, explaining that she “still doesn't have much energy to write down everything she's been through.”

“I’m still not out of the woods,” she admitted. “There are a lot of doctor’s appointments and big lifestyle changes coming up.”

Before the life-threatening incident, Cara – who has 25,000 followers on Instagram and 97,000 on TikTok for documenting her travels and sharing dental hygiene tips – posted a lot of content from her trip to Thailand.

“One day you're sitting on the floor in college, eating ramen together and talking about your dreams of traveling. Next you'll have a floating breakfast together in Phuket and have three more trips planned next year,” she wrote in a video that shows her and her husband Robert eating together in the pool.

In another clip, she sat on the edge of a boat in Wang Long Bay, Thailand, and gushed that it “felt straight out of a fantasy book.”

She also captioned a shot of herself on the beach with pink hair extensions: “I've always wanted to be a mermaid. “That has to be one in the Phi Phi Islands, where every moment is a postcard.”
