The 49ers signed George Odum to a three-year contract worth up to $10.95 million.

According to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, the San Francisco 49ers have signed guard George Odum to a three-year, $10.95 million contract. report Jan Rapoport of NFL.com. However, it remains unclear how the deal is structured and how much is guaranteed.

The Indianapolis Colts signed Odum, an undrafted free agent from Central Arkansas, ahead of the 2018 season. He has spent the past four seasons in Indianapolis, mostly serving as one of the most powerful members of the special teams. However, last season he began to play a more prominent role in defense, playing in about 43% of the team’s snaps in defense.

The 49ers have so far gone out of their way to reach out to their special teams units on the loose, and Odum is no exception. Odum was a first team All-Pro on special teams back in 2020. He finished with nine special teams tackles last year, which was the same number as Trenton Cannon.

Odum, 28, is likely closing the door on the return of Jakiska Tartt. He has 648 defensive snaps in four seasons. I wouldn’t bet that Odum is the high security future. His salary may seem high for a reserve, but we also need to factor in the increase in the salary cap.

I believe we’ll see the 49ers invest in safety with one of their first two picks in the draft. The rookie will compete against Odum and Talanoa Hufanga to see who starts.
