The pandemic is over, Corona is not – the number of infections has been rising for weeks, but experts are still confident: “Currently there is no reason for concern, the new variant that is emerging is not yet showing any effect in the clinical setting , the vaccine is immediately available, it also offers some partial protection against the new emerging variants”, says KAGes virologist Klaus Vander.

At least six months between the last vaccination

And who should be vaccinated against corona with the new adapted vaccine? “In principle, you can recommend this to everyone over 60 or to everyone with debilitating underlying illnesses, but of course also to everyone who wants to protect themselves.”

The interval between the last corona vaccination must be at least six months; there will be no more vaccination routes: “There is a large network of practicing doctors, both general practitioners and specialists, who are willing to give vaccinations – both for corona vaccination and “This also applies to flu vaccination – and you can get this vaccination in all public vaccination centers”, says Ilse Groß, from the state director of health.

Vaccination campaign starting October 2nd

The vaccination campaign at public vaccination centers starts on October 2nd, anyone who wants can get vaccinated against flu and corona at the same time: “This is actually an ideal combination, it has already covered two of the three major pathogens that regularly cause infections in the upper echelons in autumn Respiratory tract concerns, flu and corona can be vaccinated at the same time, but you have to use both arms”, explains Susanne Winter, head of the health department in Graz.

The ideal vaccination period would be from the end of October to the end of November, as both vaccines work particularly well for around three months: “There is enough corona vaccine, the same applies to the flu vaccine. This year there is something new: for the first time, it is provided throughout the country and is also paid throughout the country. Vaccination costs just seven euros as a prescription fee.” Corona vaccination remains free.
