The Alouettes challenge the Chiefs

Barely recovering from their 25-22 overtime victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday night, the Kansas City Chiefs found themselves challenged by another championship team.

“Hey @Chiefs, when are we playing each other for the World Cup?” the Montreal Alouettes' X account wrote on Monday morning.

The Sparrows won the Gray Cup last November when they defeated the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 28-24 in the playoff final of the 2023 Canadian Football League (CFL) season.

If there is obviously no meeting planned between the American and Canadian champions, a duel between teams from the National Football League (NFL) and the CFL would not be uncommon, although the chances of it not happening again are very slim.

According to NBC.com, there were a total of six meetings between the two leagues during the NFL preseason between 1950 and 1961. The only game involving the Alouettes was on August 5, 1961 at Molson Stadium in Montreal, where they lost 34-16 to the Chicago Bears.

Montreal will begin its 2024 season on June 6 with a replay of the 2023 final against the Blue Bombers in Winnipeg.
