president Macky Sall As announced, the general amnesty law for “matters related to political demonstrations” has been passed by the Council of Ministers since 2021. During these days of protests, hundreds of people were arrested, dozens died and significant property damage was caused.
However, before this law comes into force, it must still be voted on in the National Assembly. No date has been announced for this. In any case, this law, which is aimed at appeasement, is not unanimous, neither in the opposition camp nor in that of the majority.
National dialogue
In the Council of Ministers is the President of Senegal also announced that he will receive the report of the national dialogue He will then refer the matter to the Constitutional Council for its opinion on the dialogue's recommendations during a hearing scheduled for Monday, March 4.
A presidential election on June 2, a list for other candidates, President Macky Sall remaining head of state until his successor is elected… So many proposals resulting from the national dialogue were boycotted by 17 of the 19 candidates chosen by the government Constitutional Council. Most of them have contacted the Seven Wise Men and they accuse Macky Sall of “delaying measures” “so as not to set a date for the election.”
